Introducing our Mental Health Ambassador Programme.
Post by Eduvos, December 13, 2022.
Eduvos has introduced an incredible opportunity for our students to help others and improve and promote mental health with the implementation of a Mental Health Ambassadors Programme (MHAP) across all 12 campuses. By initiating this programme, we wish to create a supportive campus culture by investing in campus mental health and our students’ wellness.
The MHAP helps student leaders facilitate conversations and strategies to:
Improve mental health awareness
Break down mental health stigmatisation
Utilise the benefit of peer-to-peer education
Empower students with self-care and the confidence to seek help
Improve campus inclusivity by eliminating exclusion
Having and encouraging these conversations will help our students learn about their own well-being and break down the falsehoods about mental health. We want our students to recognise the community of support around them and use the resources available to them on our campuses.
Our Student Wellness Team will facilitate the selection and training of the prospective ambassadors. We will train the selected Mental Health Ambassadors with the At-Risk Student Identification and Mental Health First Aider modules. Students will receive certificates to show evidence of module completion.
What are we looking for in a Mental Health Ambassador?
The programme is a wonderful opportunity for our 3rd year Psychology students to take part in to positively impact and ensure personal development in preparation for their post-graduate studies. We’re looking for student leaders with strong communication and organisation skills, a high level of empathy and maturity, and a passion for equity and advocacy in mental health.
How does it work?
Each campus will utilise at least 2-4 ambassadors who will complete the two student wellness modules. Working hand in hand with the campus psychologist/counsellor to develop and implement interventions for Mental Health Promotion (monthly themes, awareness campaigns forums, presentations, etc.)
This is a one-year commitment, where our ambassadors will meet biweekly on Friday afternoons from 13:00-14:00. We strongly recommend that our MHA’s complete at least 5 Mental Health promotional interventions per semester. All interventions are moderated by the Wellness Team. It is also important that these students commit to not missing more than 3 meetings per semester.
Our Student Wellness team is dedicated to improving the student experience, we are confident that we can meet all challenges ahead with innovative ideas. Mental health resources are key to our student’s academic success.
We look forward to working alongside our students in actioning mental health awareness and investing in our students wellness.
