Vossie Feature: A Journey of Student Turned Lecturer.

Post by Eduvos, July 24, 2024.

Maya Angelou famously said, “When you learn, teach. When you get, give,” which is exactly what educators live by. Meet Mamookgo Madumise, a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (Security and Network Engineering) graduate and honours student at Eduvos, who takes pride in sharing her knowledge and expertise.

Smaller beginnings yield massive achievements
Reminded by her time in primary school, Mamookgo enjoyed smaller spaces where she could soak up personalised attention, allowing her to blossom. While this wasn’t the case in high school, smaller classes were appealing, so she was drawn to starting her journey to success at Eduvos.

“Growing up, I attended a primary school with very few students and a high school with a lot of students. I knew I thrived much better in smaller places, so Eduvos was the perfect fit for me,” says Mamookgo.

While smaller classes were at the top of her list, Mamookgo also shares how modern facilities are important, particularly within IT. Eduvos’s state-of-the-art campuses allowed Mamookgo to enjoy an enhanced learning experience.

Tailored learning for 21st century students
All 12 Eduvos campuses boast a diverse, supportive community of students, lecturers, and support staff, ensuring everyone feels welcome. Mamookgo’s experience echoes the community at Eduvos, where lifelong friends are made and cherished. Mamookgo, and Eduvos students alike, affectionately refer to their campus as their second home because that’s where they spend most of their time.

“My experience at Eduvos has been amazing. The curriculum is solid, and the mix of theory and practical stuff has been super helpful,” shares Mamookgo. “My student experience at the Vanderbijlpark campus was incredibly enriching. It somehow became a second home to everyone who comes here. The campus vibe is really vibrant, and there are so many opportunities to get involved in different activities.”

Similar to a vibrant campus community, Mamookgo shares she was never alone throughout her studies. When she wasn’t with her friends, she had lecturers support her in any way they could to boost her confidence.

“My lecturers went the extra mile for me, and their belief in me kept pushing me to do my best. They were always willing to help with smiles on their faces. Eduvos has a way of bringing in people who are willing to serve and be of service,” says Mamookgo.

In addition to the support Mamoogko received from her lecturers, she also shares how the block system at Eduvos, coupled with flexible learning opportunities, helped her approach her academic work in digestible bits.

“The smart blended learning approach offers great flexibility, helping us balance our studies with other commitments. The Block system, which spreads out modules across the year, allowed me to focus on a few subjects at a time and excel,” says Mamookgo.

Above all, with 12 campuses across South Africa, uninterrupted learning was always guaranteed. “Eduvos’s 12 campuses around the country helped me a lot. I remember times when I had to relocate from one town to another, and it didn’t affect my studies at all. I would just move to another campus without the hassle of starting over,” shares Mamookgo.

The world is your oyster
Since graduating, Mamookgo hoped to find an internship in her field to build on the knowledge she acquired at Eduvos. While hoping for an internship, she landed a job as a lecturer at Eduvos. With a strong foundation in Security and Network Engineering, she has the opportunity to share her knowledge and inspire her generation and beyond.

“Eduvos gave me the technical know-how and confidence to handle the professional world. Now, in my current role, I get to share what I’ve learned with others, keeping me connected to the field I love,” says Mamookgo.

To support her ongoing learning journey, and to support her students, Mamookgo is furthering her studies by completing a Bachelor of Science Honours in Information Technology (Security and Network Engineering) at Eduvos.

For those looking to pursue their studies at Eduvos, Mamookgo has one piece of advice: Take full advantage of everything the institution offers.

“Get involved in campus activities, don't hesitate to ask for help from the lecturers and staff, and make the most of the smaller class sizes and personalised attention. Eduvos is a place where you can truly bloom and become your best self,” says Mamookgo. “Embrace the community and opportunities because Eduvos is all about belonging and making sure every student feels valued and supported. If you’re serious about your studies and want a supportive environment where you can thrive, Eduvos is the right choice for you.”

Mamookgo’s journey from a student to a lecturer at Eduvos exemplifies the power of education. As Mamookgo continues to inspire and educate Eduvos students, her story reminds us of the lasting impact of a supportive educational environment can have on a student’s life.
