Fuelled by the determination to transcend barriers and embrace her passion, Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (Software Engineering) student, Philile Ntuli is an inspiration for other women entering the IT space. Her journey is not just about academic achievements but a testament to resilience, passion, and proof that hard work pays off.

Pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (Software Engineering) at our Eduvos Durban (Umhlanga) campus felt like the perfect fit for Philile’s passion for technology and her desire to create meaningful solutions through software. “I chose Eduvos because of its reputation for quality education and its focus on practical, industry-relevant skills,” says Philile.

Choosing a private higher education felt like the right decision for Philile. “The smaller class sizes and personalised approach to education created an environment where I could thrive,” she says. The smart blended learning approach at Eduvos allowed her the flexibility to tailor her learning experience while still providing the necessary support and resources.

Following her participation in the 2023 MTN NextGen Women in STEM Programme and completing her Software Development internship at Prodigy InfoTech, Philile is dedicated to building on her expansive skillset and furthering her studies to set herself apart in the tech space.

While focused on entering the workforce after graduation, Philile remains open to the idea of further studies or professional development down the line. "Continuous learning is key in the fast-paced world of technology, and I'm committed to staying ahead of the curve," she emphasises.

After she participated in the MTN NextGen Women in STEM Programme, Philile shares how it contributed to her personal and professional development. From enriching masterclasses to engaging online courses, the programme deepened her understanding of STEM concepts and honed her critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

“The journey began with the excitement of receiving an invitation to apply from Marna Wessels, our National Employability Lead at Eduvos. Despite initial nerves, I decided to seize the opportunity, driven by my passion for STEM and my desire to challenge myself,” she recounts. “The programme itself was a whirlwind of activity, filled with enriching masterclasses led by industry professionals and engaging online courses provided by MTN. These sessions not only deepened my understanding of STEM concepts but also honed my critical thinking and problem-solving skills.”

The internship opportunity at Prodigy InfoTech was another pivotal moment in Philile’s academic and professional journey. While it was a one-month internship, Philile recounts that it exposed her to the real-world applications of the concepts she learned during her student journey at Eduvos. She had the opportunity to show off her problem-solving, teamwork, innovative, and analytical thinking skills, which are sought after within the field. The experience not only solidified her passion for IT but also equipped her with the confidence and skills necessary to excel.

As a female studying IT, Philile is excited about the prospects of women in the IT field. She envisions a future where women in IT are not only represented but celebrated for their contributions and achievements. Her aspirations reflect a broader vision of inclusivity and empowerment, where gender barriers dissolve.

As she steps into the next chapter of her life, Philile Ntuli stands poised to leave a mark on the world of technology, a testament to the power of passion, perseverance, and possibility.
