Esports teams from our Mowbray and Tyger Valley campuses competed in an Apex Legends tournament on Saturday, 27 April. Comic Con visitors could watch as teams battled it out, with commentary by RGB Gaming.
The Quantum Crusaders walked away as the winners with second place going to Stealth Syndicate and third to Dream Dynasty. All three teams received medals and prizes that will help them improve their gaming skills. All participating teams showed outstanding sportsmanship by coming together, shaking hands and congratulating one another, regardless of the outcome for each team. This displayed our Vossies living our Eduvos values.
Comic Con is a celebration of individuality and pop culture, welcoming people from all cultural backgrounds, physical abilities, and personal identities. The event is a space for families to geek out together and connect with kindred spirits. As an institution that welcomes students from all backgrounds and champions individuality, we were excited to participate again this year.
Visitors also had the chance to stop by the Eduvos booth and learn more about our over 20 fully accredited, internationally recognised qualifications and how to enrol for the next intake or pre-enrol for 2025.
Beyond entertainment, gaming fosters critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and collaboration. These qualities are essential for success in today's dynamic world. Embracing gaming and esports in academia opens doors to interdisciplinary learning, where students can explore fields like game design, data analytics, marketing, and event management.
We launched esports at all 12 campuses last year, and events like Comic Con Cape Town are great platforms to showcase what our esports offering is all about. We believe participating in events like Comic Con Cape Town not only elevates Eduvos esports, but also opens doors to potential partnerships, sponsorships, and career opportunities for our students.
If you missed out on this event, don’t worry. Eduvos esports has more events coming up, including Comic Con Africa in Johannesburg in September.
