Eduvos Celebrates Graphic Design Students at Young Designers Portfolio Showcase.
Post by Eduvos, October 25, 2024.
We are excited to announce our upcoming annual Young Designers Portfolio Showcase, which will take place at the end of October. The event has been hosted since 2010 to allow the Eduvos Graphic Design students to exhibit their work to an audience of industry professionals, fellow students, families, and prospective students.
The showcase is designed and curated entirely by the students. Their pieces of work come from different subjects, such as typography, illustration, and motion graphics. This year's showcase promises to be a ground-breaking celebration of creativity, innovation, and the evolving landscape of graphic design.
This year’s theme is “Convergence”. This encapsulates Eduvos’s Graphic Design Students' journey, from the first stroke of a pencil to the final pixel of a digital masterpiece. It highlights the blend of traditional techniques and cutting-edge digital innovation that defines modern graphic design.
"Convergence represents more than just a theme; it's a reflection of the industry's direction," explains Judith Evans, National Programme Manager for Graphic Design. "We're excited to demonstrate how our students master both traditional and cutting-edge digital skills, preparing them for the dynamic world of design."
For the first time this year, work from students from all our campuses will be combined into one event, instead of showcases at each of the respective campuses. The showcase will feature two physical exhibitions and an extensive virtual gallery, embodying the spirit of convergence.
The first in-person exhibition will take place on Wednesday, 30 October and will showcase works from students from Eduvos’s Gauteng campuses–Bedfordview, Midrand, and Pretoria–at the Eduvos Midrand Campus. There will also be an exhibition on Thursday, 31 October at the Tygervalley Campus to showcase the talents of the Cape Town-based students.
Visitors to the in-person and virtual exhibitions will be treated to diverse creative projects, including branding, packaging, digital media, web design, and motion graphics. Design industry specialists, specifically from major design agencies are invited to see what Eduvos’s cutting-edge Graphic Design qualifications teach its students. This is another way Eduvos connects students with industry professionals and potential job opportunities.
A senior Graphic Design lecturer at the Tygervalley campus, Martin Horne says, "These exhibitions are more than just a display of work; they're launching pads for careers. The connections made here often lead to internships, job offers, and long-term professional relationships."
The Eduvos Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design degree is a comprehensive and career-focused qualification that prepares students for work in the rewarding world of design in advertising, multi-media, and design. Like all qualifications at Eduvos, it is presented by lecturers with real-world experience they bring to the classroom to prepare students for life after Eduvos. The curriculum of the Graphic Design qualification is constantly updated to keep abreast with technological and industry developments.
