Eduvos Durban Students to Feature in Documentary Feature Film in 2025.

In October, 13 Eduvos Durban (Umhlanga) students participated in the documentary Durban: Creolized Creative City. This incredible opportunity arose through the campus’s strong relationship with South African artist and playwright Ashwin Singh. As part of Singh Siblings, a dynamic arts company with a rich history in literature, theatre and film, both locally and internationally, Ashwin Singh has collaborated on this documentary with Quintin Lee White Productions. 

Durban: Creolized Creative City is a documentary feature film that explores Durban’s status as a UNESCO City of Literature. It critically evaluates Durban’s role as a representative of the African continent on the global literary stage, while celebrating the city’s vibrant cultural diversity. The documentary honours Durban’s creative talent and highlights Africa’s rich oral traditions. It features coverage of literary festivals, cultural events, interviews and cultural phenomena, including dramatic enactments and cultural walks.   

We are delighted to share that an English Literature class from our Durban campus was filmed, with snippets from this lesson included in the documentary. Derosha Moodley, our Durban campus lecturer, whose passion for English Language Arts (ELA) education was also filmed. This allowed our students to showcase what an Eduvos literature lesson is like while participating in content creation and engaging with industry professionals. Director Quintin Lee White shared his insights into the storytelling process, while Ashwin Singh provided exciting updates about the documentary and Durban’s contribution to the literary world. 

The Eduvos Durban (Umhlanga) campus is incredibly proud to have our Bachelor of Arts students feature in this project. Bringing industry experts into our lecture rooms and ensuring that our learning experience is relevant to our student’s future careers is central to the Vossie learning journey.
