On Saturday, 28 September, Eduvos, in partnership with our gaming partner RGB Gaming, proudly hosted our highly anticipated esports tournament at Comic Con Africa. This collaboration highlights our commitment to integrating esports into education, offering students opportunities to pursue their passions while preparing for successful careers in the fast-evolving world of gaming and beyond.

The tournament brought together Vossies from our Gauteng campuses, ready to compete in an adrenaline-fuelled Apex Legends competition. With a strong sense of competition and camaraderie, over 15 teams, representing over 40 students from our four faculties, battled it out for the top spots, showcasing not only their gaming expertise but also the collaborative and strategic thinking skills essential in gaming and vital in today’s career landscape.

“I love that esports is making its way into education,” says Clariesa Olivier, a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology and English Literature Studies) student. “I think it’s very important, even from a non-IT perspective. It’s all about having those relaxed moments and building a community. Eduvos is all about community; that’s what makes it amazing.”

Three standout teams emerged victorious:

1. Pookie Bears
Taking home first prize, Pookie Bears showed incredible skill and strategy throughout the tournament. Their teamwork and communication were on point, and they truly earned their spot at the top of the podium.

Liam Dalgleish, Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (Data Science)
Clariesa Olivier, Bachelor of Arts (Psychology and English Literature Studies)
Kyle Garvie, Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (Software Engineering)

2. Otaku
Coming in a close second, Otaku put up an impressive fight and showed that they're a force to be reckoned with in the world of Apex Legends.

Mckhale Sandiah, Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (Software Engineering)
Yudhisthir Singh, Higher Certificate in Computing (Software Development Lifecycles)
Bongani Zondo, Higher Certificate in Business Management (Tourism)

3. Stardust
Rounding out in third place, Stardust demonstrated their skills and determination, and we're proud to have them as part of our Eduvos tournament.

Wesley Giddy, Bachelor of Commerce in Tourism Management
Karabo Malema, Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (Security and Network Engineering)
Tshepo Maphala, Bachelor of Commerce

Events like Comic Con Africa offer an incredible platform for prospective students to experience first-hand the vibrant esports culture at Eduvos. Attendees not only enjoyed the tournament but also explored our exciting academic offerings, such as our Higher Certificate in Information Systems (Game Design and Development). With over 20 qualifications available, we ensure that our students can turn their passion for gaming into a viable and thriving career–whether in game development, marketing, or even professional esports.

At Eduvos, we believe in reshaping the higher education landscape by embracing innovation. From embracing AI and incorporating it into our curricula to prioritising the employability of our students, we are focused on creating future-proof education. Our partnerships with industry leaders, like RGB Gaming, allow us to make a lasting impact, preparing students for emerging careers in esports and beyond.

“Over the last year or so we have seen just how effective these events can be. Not only socialising students but also sparking conversations around technology, innovation, entrepreneurship and the business of gaming with students who engage in the events. This to me is really exciting, as students themselves are seeing the interconnection between gaming and possible career options”, says Jaco Sauer, RGB Gaming General Manager.

We’re incredibly proud of all our Vossie gamers who competed, some of whom are already on the path to becoming professional gamers. If you’re passionate about gaming, there’s a place for you at Eduvos. Secure your spot for 2025 by pre-enrolling today–and discover a community where you can level up your skills and education.
