Eduvos Law Students Visit High Court and Constitutional Court.

Post by Eduvos, September 12, 2024.

In August, some of our BA Law and BCom Law students from our Mbombela, Bedfordview, and Midrand campuses had an opportunity to immerse themselves in the intricacies of legal practice first-hand with trips to the Mbombela High Court and the Constitutional Court of South Africa.

At Eduvos, we continuously strive to expose our students to the workplace by bringing industry to the classroom or taking them to the industry. These visits were not just another educational trip, but also a significant leap forward to bridging the gap between academia and the workplace.

Several students embraced this opportunity to witness the proceedings in a courtroom in real-time. This exposure allowed them to understand the process of leading witnesses through examination and cross-examination, the presentation of evidence, and interacting with court officials.

They had the unique experience of observing a visually impaired judge in action, highlighting the adaptability and inclusivity within the judiciary. The students were particularly engaged when they noticed inconsistencies in a witness’s testimony, sparking discussions about the nuances of witness credibility and the art of cross-examination. Our students could engage with judges who shared their experiences, offered advice on the legal profession, and discussed the impact of law on human behaviour. The judiciary’s openness and willingness to engage with the students left a lasting impression, with the judge president encouraging Eduvos students to return annually.

Our students shared that this was an enriching experience that gave them valuable insight into the workings of the South African Judiciary and they appreciate their lecturers for making these opportunities possible.

As these students continue their journey through their studies, this experience will undoubtedly serve as a foundation for their future careers. Studying law at Eduvos unlocks a world of opportunities for our students ensuring they excel upon graduation. We remain committed to providing such practical experiences for our students and championing our mission of shaping potential–student by student–towards Africa’s prosperity.

There’s still time to start your law studies, enrol to start 30 September or Pre-enrol to study law at Eduvos in 2025.
