Launching the Eduvos Game Jam and Hackathon.

Post by Eduvos, August 15, 2023.

Esports officially launched at Eduvos last month and we are excited to share that we are launching the Eduvos Game Jam and Hackathon, in partnership with RGB Gaming

Eduvos Game Jam
The Eduvos Game Jam and Hackathon will bring together talented Vossies to develop and create an Eduvos game. This is the first event of its kind in private higher education in South Africa, and we are proud to be partnering with RGB Gaming, who are pioneers in sustainable esports at learning institutions.

The Game Jam is open to all Eduvos students (Vossies), with the kickoff hackathon taking place this Saturday, 19 August, from 9am to 1pm. The RGB team will be hacking live from the Eduvos Midrand campus, and the event will be live streamed for Vossies to attend from across the country.

The gamers will leverage Unreal Engine to build their games. Unreal Engine is a powerful and widely used game development engine developed by Epic Games. It provides game developers with a comprehensive set of tools and features to create high-quality, immersive, and interactive games for various platforms, including PC, consoles, mobile devices, and virtual reality.

The Jam will consist of 4 hackathons in total and will run through to November. Throughout the development process, our Vossie gamers will receive dedicated support by RGB's team of experts both in person and online. In November, we will select three winners who will join us at the world-renowned rAge Expo in Johannesburg on 9 December. rAge is South Africa’s longest running video gaming, technology, esports, geek culture and digital entertainment exhibition.

Vossies, please keep an eye on your Vossie email inbox for the registration information. If you are unable to attend the first hackathon, you will have the chance to catch up in the second hackathon.

Good luck Vossies! Dream, create, inspire and be awesome!

Additonal Esports News
Following the success of esports at Tyger Valley, Bloemfontein, Midrand and Pretoria, the next campuses going live include Potchefstroom, Bedfordview, Vanderbijlpark and Durban.
