Our Faculty of Applied Science boasts state-of-the-art Biosafety Level 1 (BSL 1) laboratory facilities at our Midrand and Pretoria campuses, giving you access to cutting-edge tools and real-world learning opportunities in a secure environment. Beyond our laboratory facilities, our Applied Science students are encouraged to participate in regular industry visits and experience first-hand the day in the life of their future careers. Additionally, our Bio Centrifuge Africa competition, hosted in collaboration with Task, allows students to practice their skills, showcase innovative ideas, and network with industry leaders–bringing classroom learning to life.
Qualifications and Entrance requirements
We are committed to increasing access to education, ensuring more students can pursue their future careers with ease and without unnecessary barriers. Our Faculty of Applied Science offers opportunities for students from a range of academic backgrounds, even if your matric results aren’t what you’d expected.
Our Applied Science qualifications include (with entrance requirements):
South African National Senior Certificate (NSC) with Bachelor’s degree endorsement
Or a letter or certificate confirming an exemption from Universities South Africa (USAf) for any other school-leaving results.
Any of the following:
English Language between 40% and 49% in Grade 12 or equivalent
No Physical Science in NSC Grade 12 or equivalent
Physical Science below 50% in NSC Grade 12 or equivalent
Mathematics between 30% and 49% in NSC Grade 12 or equivalent
Mathematical Literacy equal or above 50% in NSC Grade 12 or equivalent
Life Sciences/Biology between 30% and 49% in NSC Grade 12 or equivalent
South African National Senior Certificate (NSC) with Bachelor’s degree, Diploma, or Higher Certificate pass
Or a National Certificate (Vocational) Level 4 issued by the Council of General and Further Education and Training with a Bachelor’s degree, Diploma, or Higher Certificate pass
Or a Certificate of evaluation on a minimum NQF level 4 for foreign qualification confirmed by SAQA
Or a letter or certificate confirming an exemption from Universities South Africa (USAf) for any other school-leaving results
Or Completion of a Bachelor’s degree, Diploma, Higher Certificate or equivalent
A minimum of 50% in all the following Grade 12 or equivalent subjects:
English Language
Mathematics
Biology/Life Sciences
Physical Science
And 32 Eduvos points or more
The points attained for the best two of the subjects of Biology/Life Sciences, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Physical Science must be doubled
