The Future Of Learning At Eduvos
At Eduvos, we offer a variety of learning modes, so that no matter where a student is in their learning journey, we have a solution for success. To meet the needs of the ever-changing market, and to ensure our students graduate with future-fit skills, we have implemented a holistic approach to tertiary studies. This smart blended mode model combines an instructional approach within a classroom setting, with online learning and group activities.
In essence, we have flipped the traditional classroom, what does this mean for our Vossies?
A Flipped Classroom Explained
We know that learning is not confined to the walls of a classroom – learning takes place anytime, anywhere, both inside and outside the classroom.
A flipped classroom at Eduvos means that we combine asynchronous learning - learning that occurs at a student’s own time and place - with synchronous learning - learning that occurs at the same time, whether at one of our twelve campuses, or online.
This flipped classroom model will provide our students with the opportunity to engage with academic content on myLMS in their own time and at their own pace so that when they arrive at class, our students will have a basic understanding of the coursework and will be able to engage with it more thoroughly in their lecturer-led sessions.
You will therefore see in the timetabling that we prepare our students for the hybrid way of work, where we interact physically with one another at our nearest campus, but also meet with our lecturers and classmates via online sessions.
Therefore, students spend one week attending sessions at the closest campus and then the next attending the same sessions online. In this way, our students get the feel of what hybrid working means. Whether on campus or online, support is always available to ensure each student succeeds.
The Role of a Lecturer in a Flipped Classroom
At Eduvos, we are lucky to have an industry-leading academic team across our 12 campuses. Our lecturers are always on hand to support students with their module materials both in the classroom and outside the classroom.
For the times when a student is learning online, lecturers use the discussion forums on myLMS to keep in touch with students and are available to answer any questions students may have while learning online. Where needed, lecturer consultation sessions are scheduled to guide students, and students are monitored to ensure that no one falls behind.
With online instruction as part of our strategy, it allows Eduvos to offer an expanded portfolio of specialisations so that students can benefit from the vast knowledge base of our lecturers – even if the lecturer is not at the same campus as a student. With this approach, we can further offer support from on-campus tutors.
The Benefits of a Flipped Classroom
The theoretical content on myLMS is supported by additional learning activities such as videos, quizzes and lessons – all grouped into smaller thematic sections that do not overwhelm students. In addition, students have access to discussion forums on myLMS where they can interact with their fellow Vossie classmates and their lecturer.
Students will also continue to have the option for individual and/or group consultation sessions with their lecturers outside the formal classroom environment.
The flipped classroom has been carefully considered by management, the Eduvos Design and Future Learning team and our academic staff. We believe these changes will make Vossies even more competitive in the working world and support all our graduates in reaching their career dreams and ambitions.
