Starting your journey in higher education can be both exciting and daunting, especially when you're unsure of your academic direction. Meet Thomas Mamabolo, a Pre-degree Foundation Program graduate, Bachelor of Arts (Psychology and Political Science) alumnus, and current lecturer, who highlights how the right support system can transform uncertainty into a fulfilling purpose.

A Journey of Growth

When Thomas first enrolled in Eduvos’s Pre-degree Foundation Programme, he battled with doubts about his academic future and was faced with challenges in adapting to academic life. However, the programme’s comprehensive support and guidance proved to be life-changing.

"The foundation programme provided a framework for developing my academic skills. The workshops and feedback sessions were instrumental in refining my ability to articulate my thoughts clearly and persuasively," Thomas shares.

One of his most significant achievements was mastering academic writing. From constructing coherent arguments to adhering to academic standards, Thomas credits the programme with enhancing his writing proficiency–a skill that not only improved his academic performance but also improved his confidence in tackling complex topics.

A Stepping Stone Towards a Degree

The Pre-degree Foundation Programme served as a gateway for Thomas to articulate into a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology and Political Science) degree at Eduvos. This degree allowed him to delve deeper into his newfound passion for political science while strengthening his analytical and critical thinking skills.

"The programme not only prepared me for the demands of university-level study but also gave me the confidence to excel in my degree. It laid the foundation for my academic success," he explains.

After completing his degree at Eduvos, Thomas pursued his honours in International Relations and Affairs at another institution, further deepening his expertise and academic qualifications.

A Space to Build Confidence and Resilience

The Pre-degree Foundation Programme played a crucial role in shaping Thomas’ self-efficacy. Through structured activities, he learned to set realistic goals, manage his time effectively, and approach challenges with a problem-solving mindset.

"The programme empowered me to face academic challenges with confidence and resilience. These skills have extended beyond my studies, fostering growth in various aspects of my life," he reflects.

The emphasis on academic integrity also left a lasting impact. By highlighting the importance of ethical scholarship and originality, the programme equipped Thomas with a deeper appreciation for honesty and rigour in academia–a value he carries into his professional role, especially in an era shaped by advancements in artificial intelligence.

From Student to Lecturer

Today, Thomas has come full circle, now serving as a Pre-degree Foundation Programme lecturer at Eduvos. Drawing from his own experiences, he approaches his role with empathy and dedication.

"Having once been in the position of those I now teach, I understand the challenges and uncertainties that come with starting an academic journey,” Thomas shares. “I am committed to guiding my students with the same support and encouragement that transformed my own path.”

Thomas’ journey is a testament to Eduvos’s commitment to fostering growth and empowering students. Through the Pre-degree Foundation Programme, he has not only discovered his purpose but also gained the tools to inspire others on their academic journeys.
