Eduvos Academics Present Research at digiTAL 2024 Conference.

Post by Eduvos, October 03, 2024.

We are proud to announce that two of our academics presented their research at the prestigious digiTAL 2024 Conference, an international forum on Teaching, Assessment, and Learning in the Digital Age. The conference occurred virtually on 1 October and will be held in person on 16 and 17 October at the Intercontinental Beach Resort, Mauritius.

This year’s theme, “Navigating the Future: Cultivating Digital Skills for Global Relevance,” will equip educators and students with the necessary skills to thrive in the digital era. Eduvos is proud to be presenting two papers under this theme as we aim to equip our students with the skills and knowledge to ensure they prosper in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR).

Eduvos academics Dr Amos Anele (who also heads our Information Technology Faculty), Dr Chinedu Okonkwo and Suhayl Asmal will present their paper titled “The Use of Artificial Intelligence in Personalised Learning: Opportunities, Challenges, and Ethical Considerations.”

Their research delves into the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) in personalised learning environments, highlighting how AI-driven platforms can improve student engagement, academic performance, and satisfaction. The study also critically examines ethical concerns, such as data privacy and algorithmic bias, providing a balanced view of AI’s potential in education. This research aligns with our mission to ethically embrace AI and foster innovative educational practices that can be scaled across Africa.

A second paper, “Exploring the Potential of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality Technologies in Transforming Teaching and Learning,” will be presented by Eduvos academics Dr Okonkwo, Dr Anele, and Kranthi Shikari. This study explores how Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) can enhance experiential learning, engagement, and knowledge retention. It further addresses challenges such as accessibility and ethical considerations in the adoption of these technologies. Our participation in this conference reflects its commitment to pioneering digital education across Africa and positioning the institution as a leader in innovative, technology-driven learning solutions.

“Participating in conferences like digiTAL 2024 is important for Eduvos academics, as it allows us to engage with global thought leaders, share our research, and remain at the forefront of educational innovation," says Dr Anele. "As Africa continues to embrace the digital age, it is essential that we contribute to shaping the future of learning and ensure our students are equipped with the skills needed to thrive in an ever-evolving world.”

As a proudly African institution, Eduvos is excited to be presenting at a conference in another African nation. Thus far, most of our output has been done at local conferences. These two academic research papers also slot into our recently released Research Agenda under the broad theme of “Empowering Sustainable Development in Africa”.
